Kendrick Lamar - The Blacker The Berry

On Sunday, Kendrick Lamar picked up two GRAMMY awards for 2014 single i. Today, with guns blazing, he set fire to the internet. To celebrate the much-deserved wins with his fans, TDE‘s bread and butter emcee has released a brand new record, The Blacker The Berry. Undoubtedly inspired by American author Wallace Thurman’s 1929 novel (and a popular lyric from Tupac’s Keep Ya Head Up), this is a fierce, hard charging record, produced by Boi-1da and Terrace Martin, that tackles race relations in America.

Boxing Main Event: Kendrick Lamar and TDE vs GQ Magazine

According to AllHipHop.com and a host of other media outlets buzzing around the web, Kendrick Lamar and his team are calling out GQ for the use of racial overtones in their cover story. The popular "Men of the Year" issue portrayed images that were "not accurate and felt biased," says Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith.
GQ editor-in-chief, Jim Nelson seems baffled by the upset.
“Kendrick Lamar is one of the most talented new musicians to arrive on the scene in years. That’s the reason we chose to celebrate him, wrote an incredibly positive article declaring him the next King of Rap, and gave him our highest honor: putting him on the cover of our Men of the Year issue. I’m not sure how you can spin that into a bad thing, and I encourage anyone interested to read the story and see for themselves. We were mystified and sorely disappointed by Top Dawg’s decision to pull him at the last minute from the performance he had promised to give. The real shame is that people were deprived of the joy of seeing Kendrick perform live. I’m still a huge fan.”
Here's the thing: America is not accustomed to young African descendants being so outspoken on the rebuttal with power companies like GQ. Generally, the excitement, and appreciation would over shadow any other feelings I guess. Well not this time. Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith says they can't go for that.

"The interview portrayed him and his company in a negative light and he won’t stand for it. To say he was ‘surprised at our discipline’ is completely disrespectful … Kendrick deserved to be accurately documented. The racial overtones immediately reminded everyone of a time in hip-hop that was destroyed by violence, resulting in the loss of two of our biggest stars [Tupac and B.I.G.] … As a result of this misrepresentation, I pulled Kendrick from his performance at GQ’s annual Man Of The Year party. While we think it’s a tremendous honor to be named as one of the Men Of The Year, these lazy comparisons and offensive suggestions are something we won’t tolerate.”

Kendrick Lamar Named GQ’s Rapper Of The Year

In their man of the year issue GQ Magazine has named, Kendrick Lamar "Rapper of the Year". Following his run-in with Drake at the VMAs, Kendrick is asked if the two are cool now. He said that they’re “Pretty cool,” but added: “I mean, I would be okay if we weren’t.” In the following weeks, Drake would begin to give interviews indicating that he had felt offended by Kendrick’s verse, and Kendrick would go on to respond with his verse at the BET Cypher. In the interview, Kendrick acknowledged that Drake had taken his verse to be a diss, and added that Drake wasn’t a creative influence or role model. “If anything. We all peers.”

Following the VMAs, Kendrick and his team attended Diddy’s afterparty, a party where J. Cole and Diddy reportedly got into a confrontation over Kendrick’s “Control” verse. While neither Kendrick nor his team would acknowledge the incident, Kendrick did explain his decision to go to the afterparty prior to attending the event, saying, “I only go when there’s a point. Usually the point is just niggas drinking. But walking through the club the week after I released the ‘Control’ verse? That’s a point!”

GQ’s Man of the Year issue is available in newsstands now.

This kid went SO in yo. Flows are incredible! Fans have been waiting for this response for awhile, and I can't see anybody being disappointed with first, the originality spin he put on it by choosing a different beat and name. Knxwledge for certain did an amazing job on production, and Joey Bada$$ repped out for all the greats on the hook.
