10 Ways Kanye West Changed Sneakers Forever

You can't deny the impact Kanye West has had on sneaker culture. Even before the release of his Nike Air Yeezys, he was influencing sneakerheads without the help of social media (besides KanyeLive circa 2007-2010, of course). He made us pay attention to the kicks he wore at shows. He made it cool to wear unbranded, obscure international labels. And he even made sneakerheads step up their fashion game. Anything 'Ye did on the footwear front created sparks, and once he partnered with Nike and Louis Vuitton, his influence ignited a wildfire. You can expect nothing less once his collection with adidas is officially revealed. Until that chapter in Kanye's footwear history begins, here are 10 Ways Kanye West Changed Sneakers ForeverCLICK HERE

ADIDAS ORIGINALS SIGNS PHARRELL WILLIAMS

Adidas Originals is continuing to bolster their design roster with the biggest names in music, announcing Pharrell Williams as the latest long term collaborator. We’ve been suspecting something for a while, as Pharrell hit red carpets around the world wearing custom Stan Smiths and the immortal Three Stripe tracksuit, and now it’s confirmed he’s joining Nigo, Kanye, Rita Ora, Big Sean, A$AP Rocky and 2 Chainz on the Originals crack team of celebrities. The first delivery of Pharrell designed gear will arrive in the coming months over the American summer. The collaboration also involves Pharrell’s Bionic Yarn textile company and The Vortex Project, which takes plastic debris out of the ocean and converts it into fabrics. Great stuff.

‘Working with an iconic brand like adidas is such an incredible opportunity,’ Pharrell said in a statement. ‘From the classic track suit, to growing up in Virginia wearing Stan Smiths, adidas has been a staple in my life. Their pieces are timeless. This is an exciting partnership for both me and for Bionic Yarn.’ Wow, Nigo, Kanye and Pharrell, there’s a holy trinity of dope design divinity right there – watch this space very closely. Check out the announcement vid below, which features Pharrell (or a body double) walking backwards to pick up his special hat.

Jim Jones’ $700,000 Vampire Life Problems Exposed

Dipset’s Jim Jones may have more serious things to think about than a Diplomats reunion as reports claim he is involved in a nasty and pricey battle over a vampire flick.

Reports Sohh:

Details of Capo’s unexpected legal woes surfaced online Friday (January 17).

Rapper Jim Jones sucked the life blood out of a vampire flick … and now the bitter investors have sued Jones claiming he lined his own pockets with the money that was supposed to be used for the movie. Short story … Jones was supposed to produce a movie called “Vampire Life III.” He was also going to provide the soundtrack for the movie. The investors plunked down $200,000 with high hopes … hopes that were dashed when Jones stopped returning their phone calls and emails. The investors were PISSED when they learned … Jones allegedly used some of the money to make mix tapes that were supposed to go in the movie but Jones was releasing them independently. (TMZ)

In order to correct the situation, Jones’ business investors want him to cough up big bucks.

The investors were doubly upset when they found out Jones allegedly used the rest of their seed money to produce and release a Vampire-Life clothing line that was supposed to be merchandising for the movie. Bottom line — the investors feel like they were had — the movie with a cool soundtrack and clothing line was a fiction … the only thing that was real was Jones using their money to profit from the music and the threads. The investors want $700K minimum. Calls to Jones were not returned. (TMZ)

Jay Z's Untrustworthy Ways Hurting His Brand? "Is He Just The Face Of A Money-Making Empire?"

Jigga’s brand has taken a hard hit in 2013, which a new survey suggests despite Jay Z's massive popularity. The rap mogul business practices have come under scrutiny....

Reports Sohh:

According to reports, Young Hov’s power to persuade and influence lacks one key characteristic.

According to research from celebrity branding expert Jeetendr Sehdev, Jay Z’s partnership with Samsung was the second least popular celebrity marketing deal of 2013 among consumers aged 13-31 (Justin Bieber’s partnership with OPI was the most hated). In fact, the 1,000 millennials surveyed said the rapper himself was among the people least influential to their purchase decisions among the 80 celebrities Sehdev asked about, a group that included a range of personalities spanning from Tom Brady to Hillary Clinton. Sehdev said that while Jay Z remains popular with Americans of all ages, his brand is missing one crucial piece needed to persuade them to spend hard-earned money on the products he touts: authenticity. (Business Insider)

The survey also targets Jay’s unexpected Magna Carta Holy Grail summer album rollout and run with the Brooklyn Nets coming to a sudden end.

Despite the album’s strong sales, critics condemned it for being an uncreative endeavor motivated by commerce rather than artistic expression. “Millennials question the exact nature of Jay Z’s role in the artistic process,” Sehdev said. “Does he really write his own songs? Is he choosing the artists to collaborate with, or is he just the face of a money-making empire?” Further, Jay Z’s recent business decisions outside music are seen as lacking cohesion with the person he claims to be. After purchasing a stake in the NBA’s New Jersey Nets and serving as the public face of a contentious campaign to move the team to his home borough of Brooklyn, Jay sold his interests in the team less than a year after. (Business Insider)

Last month, the one-time Brooklyn Nets minority owner issued a public statement to the masses regarding his controversial choice to stay with clothing retailer Barneys despite multiple racial profiling accusations.

“In the past several weeks two separate investigations were launched as a result of the wrongful detention of Trayon Christian and Kayla Phillips. My team has been privy to the status of the Barneys third party consultant investigation. In continuing our research, we also contacted the New York State Attorney General’s office for the status of their investigation into both Barneys and Macy’s. Those findings are not yet available. While I await the findings of the Attorney General’s Office, I have agreed to move forward with the launch of BNY SCC collection under the condition that I have a leadership role and seat on a council specifically convened to deal with the issue of racial profiling. I am in a unique position to use my voice to affect change to this disturbing issue. The easy position would have been to walk away and leave policy making to others hoping that someone addresses the problem. I will not leave the outcome to others. I will take this into my own hands with full power to recommend, review and revise policies and guidelines moving forward. I am choosing to take this head on.” (Life & Times)

Erykah Badu Expands Career to Model for Givenchy

One of the most beautiful women in the world (my opinion), Erykah Badu has expanded her career by modeling for the fashion designer Givenchy.

Via WebPro News & FUSE

Erykah Badu is part of the new talent to join the Givenchy 2014 campaign with designs inspired by African and Japanese cultures. Designer Riccardo Tisci knew immediately that Badu was the person for the job. “She’s one of the most stylish women I’ve met in my life. She’s got such a good sense of proportion, of colors,” Tisci said during a recent phone interview with Style.com.

Tisci decided to promote only women of color (Erykah Badu, Maria Borges, Riley, and Asia Chow) for this new campaign. According to People the designer released the following statement. “My family portfolio concept is carrying on. This season, I decided to invite my dream icon, the respected Erykah Badu, to my stage, as well as the young beauty Asia Chow, talent of tomorrow. And my new discoveries: Black goddesses Maria Borges and Riley and model Dominik Bauer. I am very happy, we did our job while spending good family time.”

The designer spoke about wanting to create a modeling platform that is representative of the general population instead of merely depicting one group. “There was a lot of talk this season in fashion. Me, I was one of the persons who ended up not being touched by this. I discovered Joan Smalls, I discovered Maria [Borges]. I discovered a lot of black girls, and I’ve been always supporting them. For me, I grew up in a family and I grew up in a culture, an education, that we all are the same.” Tisci said before adding, “It’s 2013. Everybody’s being so cool about Instagram, about Facebook, any media, everybody’s being so open. At the end of the day, why are not so many black girls or Latin girls in shows? When you have an American president who is black! When I see this happening, it’s quite sad, I think. People can be so avant-garde, so advanced, but actually not, because people are still making differences between skin color.”

Adidas Officially Confirms Its Partnership With Kanye West

It's official, Kanye has taken his talents to Adidas!!!

Via Complex:

Before, the venture was all but official after Kanye went on Hot 97′s Angie Martinez show and said “I took the adidas deal because I have royalties and I have to provide for my family.”

But when Angie pressed on whether this deal was official, Ye replied with a vague, “Whatever is official, non-official, official—what y’all gonna see is I’m gonna be the Tupac of product.”

Well, now it is official. A statement from adidas outlines why Kanye was brought into the company’s family, and the big plans that will come to fruition in the next year. The full statement reads:

“For 2014, we welcome to the adidas family one of the most influential cultural icons of this generation, Kanye West. Well known for breaking boundaries across music, film and design and partnering with our history in street wear culture and leading innovations in sport, we look forward to creating a new chapter. Details to follow.”

Looks like Yeezy season will continue into the new year.

Kanye has touched on why he decided to sever ties with Nike, saying that his creative freedom was inhibited, and that he was refused royalties on the mega-popular Air Yeezy sneaker. But his recent “visionary streams of consciousness” have focused on the past and been vague on what’s next. With adidas making it official, and the deal reportedly erasing any financial concerns, it appears that the path is clear for Kanye to indulge his fans on what the future holds in terms of him achieving his designer aspirations.

Pendleton x Nike N7 Collection

This year’s Nike N7 collection will see the company link up with another Oregonian brand-Pendleton. That source of woolen goods created a special blanket for this year’s collection, with sales of the item benefiting the American Indian College Fund. The blanket’s patterns are used throughout the collection-even hitting on the Nike Air Force 1 High and WMNS Nike Roshe Run pairs that make up the footwear end of the capsule. Barneys Cancels Launch Party For Jay Z’s Holiday Collection

On Friday November 15th it was announced that Jay Z would move forward with his planned holiday collection at Barneys New York amidst calls for the rapper to drop his affiliation with the store...Stop the press!!! Say it ain't so!!! It seems that the scheduled launch party for the collaboration has been cancelled.

XXL Reports:

Women’s Wear Daily is reporting that a fundraiser for The Shawn Carter Foundation scheduled for Wednesday night night, was cancelled this afternoon. An official public statement by Barneys New York has not been issued but WWD reports that there could be a statement released sometime this afternoon.

The party’s cancellation comes after a wave of public backlash regarding two separate incidents of alleged racial profiling occurred at the company’s flagship store in New York. Jay Z—who has been preparing to release his BNY SCC Gallery and Collection with Barneys—has come under fire recently for his continued association with the company. On Friday, a press statement released on his Life + Times blog announced that the collection is going forward but now with 100% of the proceeds from retail going to The Shawn Carter Foundation. The press release also announced that the Brooklyn rapper will be undertaking a “leadership role” on a specially convened council formed to address racial profiling with the company.

After Jay Z’s Barneys Decision, Mega Retailers Unveil Big NY Plan

With multiple racial profiling cases against the high-end retailer Barney's still mounting this week a handful of popular stores are expected to unite this week in New York to discuss big topics including racial profiling. This is on the heels of Jay Z deciding to stick with Barney's which caused mixed reactions from the masses.

Sohh:

According to reports, clothing outlets ranging from Lord & Taylor to Barneys New York will meet Friday (November 22) to discuss big topics including racial profiling.

Major retailers will gather Nov. 22 at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church at 7 West 55th Street here to discuss such topics as racial profiling, loss prevention and store operations. The forum will be cohosted by the Retail Council of New York State and the New York Metropolitan Retailing Association. Retailers such as Macy’s Inc., Barneys New York, Neiman Marcus Group, Lord & Taylor, Saks Inc. and Bloomingale’s confirmed to WWD they are planning to send representatives to the meeting, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A spokeswoman for Neiman’s said Thursday of the upcoming meeting, “People are coming from New York and Dallas. We believe in the goals that they are trying to achieve.” (WWD)

Heading into the weekend, Young Hov issued a public statement to the masses regarding his decision to stay with Barneys.

Boxing Main Event: Kendrick Lamar and TDE vs GQ Magazine

According to AllHipHop.com and a host of other media outlets buzzing around the web, Kendrick Lamar and his team are calling out GQ for the use of racial overtones in their cover story. The popular "Men of the Year" issue portrayed images that were "not accurate and felt biased," says Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith.
GQ editor-in-chief, Jim Nelson seems baffled by the upset.
“Kendrick Lamar is one of the most talented new musicians to arrive on the scene in years. That’s the reason we chose to celebrate him, wrote an incredibly positive article declaring him the next King of Rap, and gave him our highest honor: putting him on the cover of our Men of the Year issue. I’m not sure how you can spin that into a bad thing, and I encourage anyone interested to read the story and see for themselves. We were mystified and sorely disappointed by Top Dawg’s decision to pull him at the last minute from the performance he had promised to give. The real shame is that people were deprived of the joy of seeing Kendrick perform live. I’m still a huge fan.”
Here's the thing: America is not accustomed to young African descendants being so outspoken on the rebuttal with power companies like GQ. Generally, the excitement, and appreciation would over shadow any other feelings I guess. Well not this time. Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith says they can't go for that.

"The interview portrayed him and his company in a negative light and he won’t stand for it. To say he was ‘surprised at our discipline’ is completely disrespectful … Kendrick deserved to be accurately documented. The racial overtones immediately reminded everyone of a time in hip-hop that was destroyed by violence, resulting in the loss of two of our biggest stars [Tupac and B.I.G.] … As a result of this misrepresentation, I pulled Kendrick from his performance at GQ’s annual Man Of The Year party. While we think it’s a tremendous honor to be named as one of the Men Of The Year, these lazy comparisons and offensive suggestions are something we won’t tolerate.”

Air Jordan “Stay True Lab5″ Customs by PKZUNIGA

Sneaker News sends information regarding the Air Jordan 3Lab5 was a sneaker that got pretty far from the standard set of Air Jordan 5 colorways. Then again, the custom scene has sort of amended that by imagining pairs a bit closer to the original DNA of the sneaker. This one for example sports a white/black/fired red combination, one that would have to imagine would be at least as celebrated as the retail version, if not more so. Continue reading to see a full set of angles and then hit up PKZUNIGA on Instagram if you like what you see....Enjoy the views!!!.
